Situated in southwestern Wake County, Apex has been named North Carolina’s No. 1
Small Town in economic vitality by Business North Carolina Magazine. Downtown
Apex is considered one of the most intact turn-of-the-century railroad towns and
is named for being the highest point on the Chatham Railroad.
Apex lives up to its motto, “The Peak of Good Living.” Situated in the
southwestern corner of Wake County, Apex offers residents the peacefulness of
small-town living just a short drive away from all the conveniences of a
thriving metropolitan area – major shopping, business, entertainment, culture
and recreation.
Because Apex is projected to double its population in the next decade, town
planners have worked to ensure that Apex retains its small-town character. More
than 25 new communities are under construction, and the town boasts a year-round
elementary school and a new regional library. |

ATTRACTIONS
The Downtown Historic District has commercial and residential buildings,
many of which appear on the National Register of Historic Places, dating from
the late1800's and representing many architectural styles.
The New Hope Valley Railway, located 10 minutes from Apex on Old U.S.
Highway 1 in Bonsal, offers train rides on the first Sunday of each month, May
through December.
Jordan Lake State Recreation Area,
operated by the NC Division of Parks and Recreation operates eight recreation
areas on the lake with activities ranging from boating camping, fishing and
swimming to bald eagle watching, astronomy programs, kite workshops and Heritage
Day.
Town Parks number nine and range in size
from one- to two-acre parks to the 20-acre Jaycee Park and 160-acre Apex
Community Park. The latter includes several playing fields, tennis courts, a
playground and a two-mile walking/running hard-surface trail surrounding the
lake. The Town of Apex is developing an extensive greenway system that will link
many of the parks and school sites throughout the Apex community.
Concerts At The Depot offers a series of
evening entertainment in front of the Apex Train Depot, featuring a variety of
musical styles.
