Building Materials for Green Homes - Tips from Deer Mountain

• Reducing Heating and Cooling Loads: Choosing the right kind of insulation can reduce the heating and cooling needs of the home.
• Energy Conservation Equipment: Energy Star products can help reduce the energy load by 10-20%. These are preferable products when building a green home.
• Renewable Energy Equipment: Products that can use renewable energy instead of conventional energy is environmentally beneficial.
• Water Conservation Equipment: Water equipment that exceeds national energy standards by 20% is a preferable choice when building a green home.

Across all Jordan Lake communities - In 2008 in Jordan Lake neighborhoods, 95 homes sold through the MLS for an average price of $698,112, an average per SqFt of $178. This compares to 175 homes per year over the previous three years selling for average of $635,680, an average per SqFt of $169.

Of the homes sold in the past five years in the Jordan Lake area, most were 2500 to 3500 SqFt on a lot of about 1.0 acre. 8% were single story and 92% were 1.5 or two+ story, typically Transitional, Traditional in style with an exterior finish of Brick Veneer, Partial Brick, Fiber Cement, Stone, Cedar. Among the homes in Jordan Lake, 81% have 9-10 ft ceilings, 46% have a deck, 29% have a patio, 41% have a screened porch, 19% have a basement. Most were built in 1990 or newer.
